make text: BIGGER | SMALLER

Thousands of Jewish children around the world are burdened by challenges that would overwhelm many adults. Israeli children’s lives are threatened by horrific acts of terrorism. In places such as Argentina, Jewish children live in grueling poverty.

Thousands of families in former Communist countries have yet to learn about the beauty of their Jewish heritage and may, one day, be lost to world Jewry.

JDC is striving to insure that overseas Jewish communities have the resources they need to help their most vulnerable children and families.

In Israel, JDC helped to launch the "Keeping Our Children Safe" campaign that sponsors summer camps, after school programs, and trauma/crisis programs. We also continue to create programs to help Israel effectively address of the needs of children and youth at risk, including:

  • Parent/Child Centers,
  • Drop-In Counseling Centers
  • Protection Centers for abused youngsters.

In the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, we are helping families learn about Jewish life through programs such as

  • Family Retreats
  • Cultural and educational programs at Jewish community centers
  • Kindergartens, day schools and Sunday schools
  • Hillel Centers.

In countries where Jewish families are living in poverty, we offer food packages and clothing along with educational and social services.

There’s an old Yiddish saying: "Each child carries his own blessing into the world." Discover how JDC is working to insure that world Jewry does not lose one single blessing, one single Jewish child.
