Partners and Activities

This Coalition raised $87,560 to support two local agencies that had successfully partnered with the Jewish Coalition for Hurricane Mitch Relief a few years earlier. Project activities were completed by September 2003.
  • Initial funding allowed The Foundation for Self Sufficiency/La Coordinadora to implement a project that focused on the construction of long-term housing for quake victims. Additional funds have allowed for the building of a marketing center in San Nicolas Lempa in the Baja Lempa region. It is hoped that this center will provide a fair and efficient venue through which community members can sell their locally produced agriculture, livestock, fish/seafood and crafts.

  • The SHARE Foundation constructed housing and provided emergency supplies in outlying rural communities that were not reached by Government or other programs. With Coalition support, SHARE also partnered with local NGOs to conduct four psychosocial rehabilitation and outreach programs to help women and children who had been affected by the earthquakes.
