“Will Mobile Giving Take Off In The Jewish World?”
The New York Jewish Week – February 3, 2010
Over the course of the past year, a group of volunteers affiliated with The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee’s (JDC) Next Gen initiative has been looking into launching a mobile giving campaign. When an earthquake devastated Haiti last month, suddenly the race was on to get it up and running immediately. JDC announced its text-to-donate campaign at “Help Haiti Now,” an emergency benefit held Jan. 19 at a popular music venue. The entire setup process took less than 48 hours after choosing a provider, says Sarah Eisenman, JDC’s director of next generation and service initiatives.

“The Reward Comes in the Form of Accomplishing the Work Itself”
The Jewish Exponent – January 28, 2010
Millions of lives -- and the future of a tiny nation -- are still in jeopardy. No, we're not talking about Israel, but Haiti -- that small, impoverished island nation. Within hours of a catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti last week, Israel and the United States led the way in rescue and recovery. JDC is providing food, water and other material support for EcoWorks and the Afya Foundation, aiding the work of Paul Farmer's Partners in Health. It is also supporting medical services through Heart to Heart International and the IDF field hospital, which JDC furnished with infant incubators and orthopedic devices.

“Students Rally to Help Haitians”
The Columbus Dispatch – January 28, 2010
The daily images and news out of Haiti are inspiring central Ohioans to jump in and get involved -- even if that means going face first. Matthew Rodier, a seventh-grader at Columbus Torah Academy, was looking for a service project for his March bar mitzvah when the earthquake occurred. "I was in the car with my dad on the way to tae kwon do and we came up with the idea to have a demonstration to raise money," said Matthew, who earned his black belt in the martial art in October. The Matthew Rodier Bar Mitzvah Project and Tae Kwon Do Demonstration: All proceeds go to the American Joint Distribution Committee, funding operations at a field hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

“After the Earth Moved”
Forward - January 20, 2010
For American Jews who give generously to charity, there is often an inner struggle: How much should they support other Jews, and how much should they give to causes in the wider world? The two main Jewish organizations already in Haiti before it was devastated by the January 12 earthquake — and which no doubt will be there after the cameras and celebrities have left — illustrate both approaches. The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee has for nearly a century responded to crises within the Jewish world. But when Hurricane Gustav slammed into the island in 2008, the JDC extended its help, developing relationships with organizations on the ground in Haiti that proved immediately useful in responding to this epic disaster.
