The Columbus Dispatch: Students Rally to Help Haitians
The daily images and news out of Haiti are inspiring central Ohioans to jump in and get involved -- even if that means going face first. Matthew Rodier, a seventh-grader at Columbus Torah Academy, was looking for a service project for his March bar mitzvah when the earthquake occurred. "I was in the car with my dad on the way to tae kwon do and we came up with the idea to have a demonstration to raise money," said Matthew, who earned his black belt in the martial art in October. The Matthew Rodier Bar Mitzvah Project and Tae Kwon Do Demonstration: All proceeds go to the American Joint Distribution Committee, funding operations at a field hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
