Ensuring a Jewish Future in Europe – Part 1
JDC’s Children in Need program in the Baltic States provides basic food, medicines, and other assistance to children from vulnerable young families such as this one in Riga, Latvia.
With JDC funding for maintenance and staff training, the Rosen Old Age Home in Bucharest, Romania, provides a high level of care and a sense of comfort to more than 100 elderly members of the local Jewish community.

Each year more than 2,000 Jewish youth attend the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation/JDC International Camp at Szarvas, Hungary, where they socialize, learn about Jewish traditions, and partake in life-changing experiences like having a bar/bat-mitzvah (as pictured above).
In September 2011, more than 5,000 people participated in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 4th annual breast cancer walk, organized by JDC’s Women’s Health Empowerment Program (WHEP), a partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure® that encourages the early detection of breast cancer.
With JDC assistance, the JCC in Tallinn, Estonia provides hot meals and other social welfare services to impoverished elderly Jews. JDC supports a similar effort for struggling families through the local day school.

Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales and his wife, The Duchess of Cornwall, attended the opening of the JCC in Krakow, Poland, which houses programs including the JDC-supported Youth Club and Senior Club.

With JDC support and the collaboration of local volunteers, 1,000 people from throughout the Baltics gather in Vilnius, Lithuania for a weekend-long study fest of Jewish learning and culture that has become a worldwide phenomenon.
At the JCC in Sofia, Bulgaria, seniors perform traditional Sephardic music in Ladino (a Judaeo-Spanish language) through the JDC-supported Golden Age club.
Community members of all ages celebrate Sukkot and participate in other JDC-supported cultural and Jewish educational programs in Croatia.
