Philippine Government Leverages CSPS Data to Aid Caregivers Bound for Israel
At the end of January 2003, CSPS received a request for information from the Programme Specialist at the International Organization for Migration – Manila, the Philippines. He is developing a project to provide information for the Filipino migrant worker bound for Israel.
CSPS provided him with statistics and estimates regarding legal and illegal workers in Israel: the estimated number of migrant workers, their breakdown by country of origin and their occupational breakdown in Israel. Workers from the Philippines are specifically enlisted for employment as caregivers. Israeli employment agencies usually make contact with a local foreign employment service to recruit these workers. In the Philippines the government has endorsed exporting labor and various agencies have been established to aid the workers interested in foreign employment.
