Kansas City Professional Exchange Strengthens Overseas Communities

The professional exchange between the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City, Bulgaria, Romania and Israel came about as the result of ongoing partnerships the Federation has established with the Jewish communities in these countries. Although miles separate the communities, the desire to help Jewish people – no matter where they are – draws them closer each day.

The ten-day mission was the first of a three-year effort sponsored by the Federation in conjunction with the JDC. The ten-member delegation from Kansas City visited various community centers, senior citizens homes and other Jewish institutions during the journey. Exchange participants delivered hundreds of personal care items and over the counter medications donated to help members of the Jewish communities in Romania and Bulgaria. Especially poignant to the group was a visit to the synagogue in Sofia, Bulgaria that houses the Torah scroll donated by a synagogue in Kansas City.
