State-of-the-Art Parent-Child Center to Stave Off Neglect and Abuse in Afula
New York/Jerusalem---In partnership with the Woolf family, JDC announced that it will build a unique Parent-Child Campus in Afula which will provide a single address for the comprehensive treatment of distressed families and combat the physical and emotional neglect and abuse of children. The Campus is being made possible by a very generous gift from Bertie and Jackie Woolf, Anton and Julie Woolf and Lara and Brandon Grusd. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Monday, June 26th in Afula, hosted by the Mayor of Afula, Mayor Avi Alkabetz.
Located in northern Israel, nearly 25% of young people in Afula, from birth to age 18, have been identified as at-risk. Additionally, some 20% of residents in Afula receive support from the welfare services, where existing resources have fallen short of addressing their urgent needs. Afula remains among one of the poorest cities in Israel.
The future Woolf Family Parent-Child Campus will join the national network of 26 Parent-Child Centers in Israel, established by JDC's Ashalim partnership with UJA-Federation of New York and the Israeli Government.
Parent-Child Centers have proven highly successful in transforming the lives of at-risk children and their families by providing multiple holistic services under one roof, ensuring treatment in a warm home-like setting, offering a broad range of therapeutic interventions and tailoring treatment to individual family needs.
The state-of-the-art Campus in Afula will also comprise facilities and therapeutic services never before housed within one complex.
