St. Petersburg YESOD Wins City-Wide Architecture Prize

New York/St. Petersburg---On September 13th, YESOD, the recently completed St. Petersburg Jewish Community Home, won a Grand Prize, in the St. Petersburg architectural competition — "Architecton 2006". The annual competition is organized by the St. Petersburg Union of Architects in association with the City Construction and Architecture Committee and the Associated Members of the St. Petersburg Union of Architecture.

YESOD, together with the winners for "best design and "best degree of work" was awarded the "Architecton" Mark of Honor and a diploma of the St. Petersburg Union of Architects. Winning projects from the St. Petersburg competition are automatically submitted to the All-Russia Festival, Architecture-2006, in Moscow in October.

YESOD is the JDC's flagship JCC in the FSU. It is a centrally located, state-of-the-art, 7,200m2 (75,000ft2), four-story building, specifically designed to respond to the current and future needs of St. Petersburg's Jewish community. Opened in March, 2006, the building contains a large multi-purpose hall, a central atrium, a gymnasium, classrooms and activity rooms, and has space for an educational center, a library and a restaurant. In addition, St. Petersburg's main Jewish organizations have already taken up residence in YESOD including Hesed Avraham, the Adain Lo Jewish Family Center, Hillel and the Petersburg Institute of Jewish Studies.
