Jerusalem Foundation Recognizes Ralph Goldman with Teddy Kollek Award for Lifetime Achievement

Jerusalem, 5 October, 2003 -- The Teddy Kollek Award, the Jerusalem Foundation's highest honor was bestowed on Ralph I. Goldman, who serves as Honorary Executive Vice President of the JDC.

In recognizing Mr. Goldman's contributions, the Foundation noted that he has been a dedicated partner of the State of Israel since before its establishment and "through the JDC and other enterprises, Mr. Goldman has helped to launch numerous innovative social, educational and cultural programs that enrich life in Israel and throughout the Jewish world. He has been involved in the Jerusalem Foundation from the very beginning, helping Teddy Kollek in the Foundation's establishment. Throughout his years at the JDC, Ralph Goldman has been involved with many joint projects between the JDC and the Jerusalem Foundation. He is an active and supportive member of the US Board of the Jerusalem Foundation and an invaluable friend to Jerusalem, to Israel and to the Jewish people everywhere."

On a more personal note, Jerusalem's famous mayor, Teddy Kollek said of Goldman, "Ralph is that rare combination of idealist and pragmatist, which means he has vision and good ideas and also knows how to make things happen." It was Kollek who introduced Goldman to David Ben-Gurion in 1949. Goldman went on to serve as director of the Technical Assistance Department of Ben-Gurion’s office.

Goldman is the fourth honoree to receive the Tedy Kollek Award, which is given each year by the Jerusalem Foundation to those leaders who have worked to establish Jerusalem as a tolerant, pluralistic and open city for all its residents and visitors, regardless of religion, gender or race.

Past recipients include: Former German Chancellor Dr. Helmut Kohl, violinist Maestro Isaac Stern, the American industrialist Lester Crown, Mrs. Vivian Clore Duffield, Mrs. Friede Springer and Harvey Meyerhoff.
