Made up of 39 Jewish organizations, the Coalition is now raising funds to assist the victims of this disaster, which left over 200,000 people dead and tens of thousands displaced. Ethnic Cleansing in Darfur, Sudan

Described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis today, the ethnic-based violence in Sudan's Darfur province has placed nearly 2 million mainly black African farmers and their families at risk. While peace talks continue between the Government of Sudan and the two Darfurian rebel groups, and as the UN, the African Union, the US and other countries condemn the large-scale violence, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate. As a political solution is sought, millions of people are being exposed to starvation, disease and death. To help ease the plight of Darfur’s victims, JDC convened and is now coordinating the Jewish Coalition for Sudan Relief. Made up of 24 mainly North American Jewish organizations, the Coalition has raised over $450,000 to date, all of which has been used to support the work of the few NGOs that are actively providing humanitarian relief to those affected.
