Argentina

Reaching Vulnerable Children (2002-2009)
At the height of the economic crisis in Argentina, over four million children were categorized as living below the misery line. In response, JDC is supporting over 40 soup kitchens so that over 4,000 children and their families can receive food. JDC also supported the construction of additional space at a children's soup kitchen to enable an expansion of its feeding capacity and house other necessary programs. Additional support for this project was provided by children from a local Jewish day school. JDC is also donating much needed equipment and medicines, and enabling agencies to conduct pharmaceutical distribution programs. The establishment of small businesses, food and nutritional programs, and university scholarships in partnership with Caritas and the University of Buenos Aires, all encourage the long-term economic rehabilitation of Argentina.
