- Morocco

Jews have lived in Morocco for more than 2,000 years. During World War II, King Mohammed V refused to allow Jews to be deported to concentration camps in Europe.

Though many Moroccan Jews chose to emigrate after the State of Israel was established, Morocco's Jewish life continued to flourish. In 1956, Morocco gained its independence, and Jews were granted citizenship and equal rights.
