Fifty years of Soviet occupation left the Jews of Estonia bereft of Jewish institutions and cut off from their heritage. The fall of the Soviet Union brought economic hardship, particularly for the elderly who live on fixed pensions. JDC is helping the small Estonian Jewish community to implement social welfare services for its needy elderly and to bring a wide range of Jewish communal services to all generations. The Jewish Community Center in Tallin has been renovated and serves as the active hub of communal life. 2005 |
