Europe / Hungary

- Hungary

JDC first made its mark in Hungary over 80 years ago, responding to the needs of Jews ravaged by hunger, disease, and war. Over the last century, JDC has offered assistance to Hungarian Jews in their darkest days – in the Budapest Ghetto, in the face of Communist anti-Jewish policies, and in the aftermath of Communism’s fall, when the effects of the nation’s transition to a market economy hit elderly Jews particularly hard.

Today, JDC is working with a variety of Jewish organizations to help the Jews of Hungary reclaim their heritage and to assist in meeting the changing needs of this third largest European Jewish community.
