At Last the Meaning of Life at 92

Izydor, a retired chemist living in Warsaw, had been totally estranged from the Jewish community and the outside world for many years. Today, he finds himself with a full Jewish social life and a regular schedule of visitors. At the age of 92, Izydor is part of the Jewish revival in Poland.

While his physical needs are met through critical JDC-supported welfare programs, Izydor cherishes most dearly the friendships he has found through JDC social and recreational initiatives. By sharing memories of the Jewish Poland of his youth with his social worker and a young student volunteer, he feels a valuable part of Jewish life today.

Izydor recently spent a week at the Jewish community's Srodborow-Akiva Kohane Camp outside Warsaw where he enlarged his circle of Jewish friends. He returned full of joy and optimism. "Thanks to the Joint, I want to live again," he said. "At last, I see the meaning in my life."
