Special Homecare Services Raise Spirits During Extended Disability

One hundred-year-old Rebecca has lived together with her 70-year-old son, a retired engineer, in a three-room apartment in Iasi, Romania for more than thirty years. Otherwise full of energy, Rebecca has been bedridden for months after breaking her hip, counting the days until she will be able to get on with her activities.

Although in good spirits, Rebecca also has cardiac and respiratory ailments requiring medications that consume most of her meager monthly pension- and that of her son. But JDC-supported cash assistance, food packages, meals-on-wheels, and winter relief enable them to survive. Special homecare services have helped Rebecca retain her dignity during her extended disability.

"I have everything I need from the community and JDC," says Rebecca, "and of course, from my son."
