Hesed volunteer Writes Her Place in the Community
Anna is a gifted journalist with a penchant for writing thought-provoking stories. Educated at the Kazan University, she has been working at a newspaper in Kostanay since 1959 publishing on important moral and social issues. Though she is duly retired and receives a pension, Anna continues to publish her columns, and is currently editing a memorial book from interviews with WWII veterans. Anna is as dedicated to her community as she has been to her career. When the Jewish Cultural Center was founded, Anna became one of the most active members. She assisted the Hesed by gathering and analyzing questionnaires, preparing client lists, and making food packages. In appreciation of all her hard work, Anna was named head of the Women's Club in January, 2003. Since assuming the position, Anna has been an inspiration to many members of the club. They particularly enjoy the meetings, during which they discuss topics such as the role of women in the family, traditions and holiday practices, the meaning of Shabbat, and even flower-growing and gardening tips. Anna has also won the women over with the tasty homemade pies and cakes she brings to each meeting. In addition to her role as head of the Women's Club, Anna serves as the Hesed reporter, writing articles about celebrations, the literature and music clubs, and other Hesed activities. Her professional skills and contribution the Jewish community are widely recognized and appreciated. |
