Nutritious Food Keeps Me Alert at School

Igor, age 16, lives with his father, mother and brother. His parents are not working, as his mother has poor health and his father, a house painter, has not been able to find work for a long time. Igor's brother is 18 years old, disabled and is a Hesed client. The family's income comes from Igor's brother’s disability pension and the Hesed’s assistance to him.

The family lives in a three-room house. It is cracked all over and paint is peeling from the ceiling. Instead of wallpaper, there are dirty newspapers glued to the walls. The furniture is ramshackle and the smell of dampness fills the rooms. This is Igor's home. His parents have no money to pay for heat and it is very cold in the house. They had not been using their refrigerator, as there was no food to keep in it.

Igor is a smart boy and a very good student, but he is not getting the food and nutrition he needs to remain alert in school. Through the Children's Program Igor receives a fresh food package twice a month.
