Listen to Dr Yatsiv's Reflections on the JDC Community Health Partnerships Initiative in Uzbekistan

The Community Health Partnerships (CHP), initiated by JDC, aims to strengthen health and rehabilitation services for the benefit of Jewish communities and the general population in the Former Soviet Union (FSU). Limited infrastructure and resources, as well as the absence of modern technology and methods, have led to deteriorating public health services in the FSU with serious consequences for the health of the population. JDC has responded to the health needs of the Jewish population in the framework of its broader welfare, community and education programs within the Jewish communities. Since its inception in late 2005, CHP operates in the countries of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

Dr. Ido Yatsiv is the Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hadassah Hospital in Ein Karem Jerusalem. For the past year, Dr. Yatsiv has been involved with CHP and was a recent participant in a professional delegation that visited Uzbekistan. The delegation assessed the needs of community and focused on local capacity-building through professional training and enhancement of professional competencies between Israeli volunteers and local teams.
