First Quarter 2006 Update
Both the economy and society have settled into a holding pattern awaiting the outcome of the 17th Knesset elections. Issues at the forefront include: the war on poverty, concern for retirees (pension legislation), the assurance of jobs for the unemployed, the elimination of barriers to and active encouragement of labor force participation (e.g., by subsidizing daycare or instituting a negative income tax), and the assurance of citizens’ welfare.
