Elder Rights, Social-Community Services and Immigrant Absorption Advocates are Honored with Larry and Leonore Zusman — JDC Award
The President of Israel welcomed five social service professionals into the Beit Hanassi this November to honor them. For the fifth year in a row, the president's house served as the setting for presentation of the Larry and Leonore Zusman — American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee Prize for recognizing individuals or staffs who exhibit excellence in the innovation and implementation of social service programs in Israel.
The 2006 winners represent the best of the best in their respective fields, they included:
-
Dr. Israel Doron, for assistance to the elderly. Dr. Doron has been a ground-breaker in the area of elder rights and ethics and social policy as they relate to aging. He works to raise awareness among professional caregivers, jurists, public figures and policy-makers of the possibilities that exist for empowering the elderly by legal means.
-
The team of Yermiyahu, Tami Ben-Shalom and Yuval Farjun for work in the field of volunteering and philanthropy. As members of the urban Kibbutz Reshit in Jerusalem, the three coordinate ongoing volunteer activity which focuses on education and social-community services. Reshit has become a framework that combines innovative teaching methods with social integration.
-
Tziki Aud in the category of immigration absorption. Recognizing the basic human need for warm human contact — home and family, Mr. Ud, devotes himself to absorption activity on behalf of chayalim bodedim ("lone soldiers") who make aliyah with no family or friends, is regarded as the soldiers' "father" in Jerusalem.
