Distressed Elderly Enjoy a Quick "Holiday" in Jerusalem

After nearly three weeks in bomb shelters in Northern Israel, some 1,200 elderly enjoyed a 5 day "respite holiday". These lonely and distressed elderly, both Jewish and Arab, were taken on buses to hotels in Jerusalem and central Israel. This unprecedented initiative started as a JDC and JDC-ESHEL project sponsored by UJC. Caregivers and social workers have shared that the break did release some of the tensions and anxieties as well as provide some relaxation they desperately needed.

Now, the number of partners has expanded to include the Prime Minister's office, the Welfare Ministry, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of the Elderly, and the Israel Hotels Association in order to bring more elderly on a 5 day "respite holiday".
