The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the world’s largest Jewish humanitarian assistance organization, mourns the death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and other Polish officials in the plane crash on Saturday.

“Our hearts go out to the people of Poland at this tragic time. With a long and historic commitment to Jewish life in Poland, JDC stands with the local Jewish community in Poland by expressing our deepest condolences on this tremendous loss for their nation,” said JDC CEO Steven Schwager.

A JDC mission comprised of members of JDC’s Board of Directors is currently in Poland, and will be arriving in Warsaw tomorrow. The mission is being led by JDC Board Member Jerry Spitzer, who chairs JDC’s Europe Area Committee.
