JDC Celebrates Israel at 60
JDC-Israel Slideshow: Follow JDC's Footprints in Israel from 1914 to Today
JDC is proud to partner with Israel as it celebrates 60 years of Jewish Statehood.
We Were There. JDC's roots began in Eretz Yisrael, when, in 1914, then U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Henry Morgenthau, Sr. cabled American Jewish leaders appealing for funds to relieve hunger among Jews living in Ottoman Turkish-ruled Palestine. Over the decades, as Jewish needs evolved and Israel declared its independence, JDC has been a partner in developing and improving the delivery of social services that profoundly improve the lives of individuals, communitiy infrastructures, and Israeli society as a whole. We Are There. On behalf of North America's Jewish communities and other global funding partners, JDC aims to ensure that Israel’s most vulnerable citizens—children and youth at risk, the elderly, people with disabilities, immigrants, and minorities—share fully in Israeli society. Our programs touch the lives of 1 in 4 Israelis—young and old, Jews, Muslims, Druze, and Christians.
We Will Be There. The extensive infrastructure and partnerships established by JDC in 94 years of work with at-risk populations in Israel will enable us to continue to help Israel respond efficiently and effectively to the society's needs long into the future, in peacetime and in times of emergency.
