A couple days ago, NYTimes reporter Ellen Barry reported on the impact of the global financial crisis in Baranchinsky, Russia. Barry touches on many of the issues that JDC confronts working with the world’s poorest Jewish people in the former Soviet Union, such as the diminishing value of pensions, slashed incomes, and fluctuating inflation rates. Every day the people we serve are forced to make decisions between food and medicine. It is important that issues, faced by many communities in the former Soviet Union, be in the public awareness.
