Jacky, Vice President of JDC’s Board of Directors, continues reporting from Haiti.

Dear friends … standing amidst the rubble of Port-au-Prince and seeing the sheer enormity of the human tragedy all around me, I find myself feeling hopeful.

I am hopeful because alongside the devastation and misery, I also see and experience evidence of humankind’s capacity to give in times of need. Funds, food, and medical teams are reaching victims, with no evidence of compassion fatigue anywhere.  See this “help in action” in a set of images from Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas.

As if to prove the point, I spoke in my previous blog about the sponsoring of life-saving water tanks. Within just a half hour of posting that message, 10 of you responded offering to sponsor tanks for your children and loved ones. It is now mid-day and we are at 20 tanks! I may at times feel overwhelmed by the enormity of the challenges here, but the eagerness of those willing to give so that the Haitian people can recovery lets me know that anything is possible.

P.S.: Anyone who wishes to sponsor a water tank just leave a comment here and we’ll get back to you. For $4,000 dollars you can save thousands of lives.
