JDC meets with White House officials and senior humanitarian aid officers to discuss work in the field.

As part of JDC’s work in Washington, Board members and staff traveled to our nation’s capital for meetings, culminating in a session with White House officials. Susan Sher (First Lady Michelle Obama’s Chief of Staff) and Danielle Borrin (Associate Director of Public Engagement), who serve as President Obama’s liaisons to the Jewish community, engaged with JDC representatives to learn about our work.

Also during this Washington D.C. visit, JDC reinforced its wide range of humanitarian assistance activities, meeting with the CEO of InterAction, the largest alliance of U.S.-based international development and humanitarian nongovernmental organizations (of which JDC is a member) and with senior officials of USAID (the US Agency for International Development), the central worldwide humanitarian assistance arm of the US government. When JDC responds to a natural or man-made disaster, we coordinate our relief efforts with both entities, most recently exemplified with our Haiti earthquake relief campaign.

This trip and the meetings were a part of JDC’s efforts to strengthen relationships with government officials and to share JDC’s global work with policy makers on Capitol Hill, in federal agencies, and beyond.
