Tapping Jewish History, Today

As an organization with deep, historical roots to the European Jewish experience, especially during some of the most challenging times of the 20th century, we here at JDC are excited about a new online resource that depicts the story of Eastern European Jews from the nascent days of their lives in the region right to the present.

As an organization with deep, historical roots to the European Jewish experience, especially during some of the most challenging times of the 20th century, we here at JDC are excited about a new online resource that depicts the story of Eastern European Jews from the nascent days of their lives in the region right to the present.

The online edition of the YIVO Encyclopedia is a collection of research, images, audio, video, and more that showcases unique content like a map of a 1700’s shtetl in Poland and a clip of a song composed during WWII in Lithuania’s Vilna ghetto.

JDC’s Through The Years web section is a microcosm of YIVO’s site—and, not surprisingly, focuses both within and beyond the borders of Eastern Europe—but aims to bring history to life through faces, relics, and factoids. We’re looking forward to some further searching of Yivo’s site and learning more about a people and a region so important to JDC.
